In the context of pictures from the past, here is a picture of me and son Tom in 2008 during the Queen’s procession in our home town, Tienhoven, along with 3 other photos I took of the procession.
ENGLISH
Every year on Kings day, couple of years ago still Queen’s day, my home town Tienhoven in Utrecht turns into in a colorful and festive place. The movie above gives a quick and hopefully lasting impression of this festive day.
On one of the strips of grassland a marquee is set up. All the lamp-posts are provided with a Dutch flag. And almost all the houses are decorated with the Dutch flag, little flags and some with orange balloons. Far in advance, or the day before, themes are devised for the allegorical procession. Themes are based on news items, supermarket or other actions, world events, whatever one can think of or is involved in. This always gives a very colorful, often hilarious procession on a cart. With here and there (sometimes too loud) music. Because music can not be missed in a parade!
Like every year, I had the camera ready to take pictures. Because of our children who sit in the school cart, and because of those very colorful, fun, carts that go by. Anyone can participate! Preschoolers, school kids, road-mates, married couples, teammates, pub mates, classmates who don’t want to ride with the cart from school anymore because they are too big … Mothers and fathers, who were the children en youth from back then (and sat in the school cart) … high school youth … young students (they come back!) … Although I think some start way too early with the beer, the fun everyone radiates is contagious and great to see.
This year, because of an arm injury, I really limited the number of photos and moments of shooting. Of the photos I took I selected some for the photo film (above) which hopefully gives a good and lasting impression of this fabulous colorful procession in Tienhoven. Come and see it if you can, I think it is really worth it!
